HOW WE CUT STONES
Every Earthcut gem begins with the rough material itself. Instead of cutting toward predetermined shapes or calibrated sizes, each stone is studied individually and allowed to guide the cutting decisions that follow.
ABOUT THE FOUNDER
David Watkins is a New York–based jewelry designer and founder of the fine jewelry brand, Rigby Leigh.
Working as a jeweler creating bespoke, naturally driven pieces, David often found that traditionally cut gemstones dictated the design rather than supporting it. In response, he began cutting his own stones — developing an approach that follows the natural form of the rough so each gem enhances, rather than limits, one-of-a-kind jewelry.
Earthcut Gems represents the intersection of cutter and jeweler: stones created by someone who understands the challenges of designing around them.
